Video Engine Fallback: How SecureVideo Keeps Sessions Running During a Zoom Outage

A canceled appointment costs more than the missed revenue. It costs a patient’s trust that virtual care is dependable enough to rely on. When a major video provider like Zoom experiences an outage, practices using a single video engine have no way around it. SecureVideo was built with a different approach: two independent video engines, Zoom and One-Click, that can fall back on each other automatically.

What Happened During the Last Zoom Outage

When Zoom experienced a service disruption, practices relying solely on Zoom-based video tools had no way to hold their scheduled sessions. SecureVideo accounts were able to shift to One-Click, our zero-install video engine, without losing a single appointment. Participants didn’t need to do anything differently. The same session link they’d already received simply connected them through the alternate engine, with no new download and no new instructions to follow.

How the Fallback Actually Works

SecureVideo offers two ways to hold a session: Zoom, which supports large group sessions of up to 300 participants and the advanced session tools like whiteboards and screen annotation, and One-Click, a browser-based option that requires no app installation at all. If one engine runs into a technical issue, a host can switch a session to the other with only a few clicks, and the connection updates automatically using the same link the participant already has.

Account administrators can set a default video engine account-wide or by individual provider. A provider who regularly runs large group sessions might default to Zoom, while a provider running mostly one-on-one visits might default to One-Click for its simplicity. Either way, both engines remain available as a fallback unless an account is specifically configured to suppress one.

Why This Matters Beyond a Single Outage

Outages are the most visible reason fallback matters, but they aren’t the only one. A patient who can’t get Zoom installed on their device, an unstable connection that keeps dropping, or a firewall blocking one engine but not the other can all be resolved the same way: switching engines instead of rescheduling. What looks like a single feature is really a reliability strategy that covers a wide range of everyday problems, not just headline-making outages.

Built Into Every Account

This isn’t an add-on that has to be purchased or configured after the fact. Every SecureVideo account includes access to both video engines, covered under our medical practices and behavioral health offerings alike, so the fallback is there before a practice ever needs it.
